NAWE Conference 2009

Chilworth Manor, Hampshire, 13-15 November

The structure of our conference took another step step forward this year, extending into the Friday afternoon. Our special guests were Graham Swift and Wendy Cope.

We were pleased to include the launch of Short Circuit, a guide to the short story, published by Salt. Vanessa Gebbie, the editor, introduced the book and two of its contributors, Graham Mort and Alison Macleod, who each read from their own chapters.

The conference was extensively covered in Writing in Education No. 50.

Contributors included: Philip Burton; Martin Goodman; Mike Harris; Andrew Melrose; Craig Batty on screenwriting; Amanda Boulter on writing and climate change; Liz Cashdan in Iceland; Jane Moss on writing and bereavement counselling; Sharon Norris on teaching lyric writing; Pat Ryan on Shakespeare and storytelling; Noel Williams on poetry off the page.
