This is more than a theoretical grounding - you'll graduate with experience and industry contacts, ready to make your name in film or television production, or progress to a further qualification. Working in collaboration on scripts, documentaries and interactive projects, you'll gain script development skills and learn to work within a creative team. You'll also be guided through the business processes involved in bringing a project to life, from acquiring rights to budgeting, finance and distribution. Learning the processes is just the beginning: you'll be undertaking very real projects that allow you to apply your skills and gain experience in liaising with active industry professionals and business contacts, both local and abroad. |
Requirements |
You'll normally require an honours degree in an appropriate discipline for entry into this course - for example, a degree in creative writing, journalism, filmmaking or drama.
However, if you have experience at a comparable level, and can convince us of your suitability for the course, we may waive the formal requirements through our Recognition of Prior Learning procedures.
You will also be required to attend an interview, and/or be asked to show evidence of an aptitude for the course, appropriate experience, and an indication of how you might benefit from the course.
As part of the application process you will also have to submit the following along with your application:
1.A short proposal.
Please outline on one side of A4 the project (or projects) that you envisage working on if your application is successful. Your proposal should tell us:
whether the project is a documentary, short/feature length fiction, series drama, etc.
at what stage of development it's at (for example: idea, script or researched treatment)
who, if anyone, is involved (for example: researcher, writer, director)
and what you aim to achieve by the end of the programme.
Don't worry if you don't have a firm project at this stage. An indication of the following will help us establish how well the programme matches your aspirations. So please tell us:
the area or areas you'd like to work in (for example, drama, documentary/factual, animation or interactive), what background/knowledge/skills you have that are relevant to that ambition and what sorts of projects you would like to develop as part of, or on exiting the programme.
2.Please identify a producer whose work you particularly admire and tell us why.
3.Please supply a CV highlighting the qualities, experiences and/or achievements that you feel are most relevant to screen producing.
We'll also ask you for evidence of your previous achievements, and to demonstrate your creative, craft and professional potential as a screenwriter, producer or director.
