YSJ has had a series of Writers in Residence (including Linda Hoy and Debjani Chatterjee) sponsored by the Royal Literary Fund.

The C4C (Collaborating for Creativity) Centre at YSJ supports an annual Writers' Festival, the riverlines programme of readings in conjunction with York's independent cinema, City Screen, and a Living Writers project that enables students and staff to encounter major modern writers on campus.
