I have known Joan Michelson since I first began teaching at the University of Wolverhampton in 1994. During this time, I have worked closely with her on a number of courses and can say without reservation that she is a dedicated, creative, and innovative teacher who is popular with her students and greatly respected by her colleagues. Joan is also an indefatigable researcher who has attracted prestigious fellowships and grants for her scholarly activities - achievements that have enriched her commitment to disseminating her knowledge and experience both to her students and the wider communicty.
Senior Lecturer in English
University of Wolverhampton, Dudley
I am happy to prvide a reference for Joan Michelson. I have known Joan for seven years as a colleague and in that time have become well acquainted with her writing and teaching. I am an admirer of both. The intelligence, warmth and sensitivity that pervades the former also informs the latter. I have learned a great deal from Joan's innovative approach to teaching and, like many others, have been inspired by her infectious enthusiasm. Most importantly I know Joan commands the respect of students. On many occasions over the years they have spoken to me, informally, of their respect for Joan and of the extent to which they value and enjoy their time with her. Joan is also a very likeable and easy-going individual who, though possessed of clear opinions and challenging ideas, will integrate well into a teaching team.
I am, then, pleased to support Joan's application without reservation.
