I'm an author, features journalist, book coach, and workshop facilitator. I've given talks about various aspects of my work, and taught creative non-fiction writing to adults. I've been a Royal Literary Fund Writing Fellow (RLF)at St Mary's University in Twickenham and am currently an RLF Advisory Fellow.
I've written two books: Wanderland (Bloomsbury 2020),shortlisted for the Stanford Dolman Award for Travel Book of the Year and the Wainwright Prize, and Wild Times (Bradt, 2016), awarded the Adele Evans Award at the British Guild of Travel Writers Awards.
I've contributed to a number of anthologies, including the landmark Women on Nature (Unbound, 2021).
I’ve been a judge on the Stanford Dolman Award for Travel Book of the Year, and my texts and poems have been displayed in London, including at the Winter Light exhibition at London’s Southbank Centre, where I was the sole writer among twenty visual artists.
I've spoken about my work at numerous book festivals and in 2021, I delivered the inaugural Jan Morris Lecture at the Hay Festival in Wales.
I've previously taught TEFL, been a guest lecturer at Bath Spa University, Cambridge University's Institute of Continuing Education (ICE) and St Mary's Universit,y Twickenham and I lead workshops on creative non-fiction (travel writing, with an emphasis on post-colonial travel memoir). I've also taught at the National Centre for Writing in Norwich (NCW) and run book proposal writing workshops for the publisher Canongate, for entrants to their Nan Shepherd Prize. I offer one-to-one coaching for aspiring writers and I am happy to lead writing workshops for organisations.
Between 2022-2024 I was a Royal Literary Fund (RLF) Writing Fellow at St Mary’s University, Twickenham, London, and I am currently an Advisory Fellow for the Royal Literary Fund, mentoring new Fellows working in universities across London.
As a journalist with over 20 years experience, I've travelled widely and I've produced commissioned features for a variety of national newspapers and magazines – everyone from the Guardian to the Times to National Geographic and TIME magazine.
I started my career in book publishing, working for Penguin Books and Pan Macmillan.
