New Writing North is recruiting a freelance Writer in Residence for Durham Writes – a new talent development programme beginning in February 2025, in partnership with Durham Libraries. Durham Writes will develop creative skills and cultural opportunities for new writers of fiction in County Durham. This part time role is expected to begin in February 2025 and continue until July 2025.
You will work with the Producer to research and develop partnerships in County Durham. You will lead in delivering programme content and creating bespoke development activities for participants.
You will deliver six taster sessions in locations identified by the Producer, to provide County Durham residents with the opportunity to try out creative writing.
You will then lead a targeted creative writing course which will be recruited through an application process open to writers who have taken part in the tasters.
You will be supported by the Producer to identify progression routes for the most talented participants and will offer mentoring sessions with identified participants.
You will report to the Senior Programme Manager (Talent Development) at New Writing North. The work will be largely location-based, with some opportunity for home-based working for planning days and online meetings. You will be expected to meet regularly with the Producer and when required with New Writing North (via video call or face-to-face).
The fee is £4500.This fee is inclusive of all preparation and follow-up work. Payment will be made in two instalments.
