Writer in Residence at the Bronte Parsonage Museum
Deadline: Fri 4 Mar 2022
The Brontë Parsonage Museum is excited to announce our open call for a Writer in Residence, working with us from April 2022-March 2023. For a commission of £4000, we are on the hunt for a writer who will create new work that defies expectations, whilst working with our community.
Our 2022 exhibition is ‘Defying Expectations: Inside Charlotte Brontë’s Wardrobe’, and focuses on some of the remarkable garments and accessories worn by Charlotte Brontë. We want to commission a writer who is dedicated to ‘defying expectations’ through their creative practice, in both the way they produce work and what they create. During their residency, we want our writer to use the Brontë story or our unique collection as a springboard for new creative practices and new work.
We also want to commission a writer who is passionate about developing work with and within our communities. This might include having conversations with our visitors on a busy day, drop-in writing sessions or running workshops with particular groups in the community.
For this reason, the Brontë Parsonage Museum is going to an open call on the search to find a writer who will work with the community to create work that defies expectations.
We have an initial budget of £4000 for this residency based on 15-20 days work. Shortlisted writers will be invited to set out what they feel is a realistic programme of work in return for this fee.
