Write on Art is an annual national writing competition sponsored by Art UK and the Paul Mellon Centre to encourage an interest in art history among young people. Open to all UK students aged 15–18.
To enter, all students have to do is pick one artwork featured on the Art UK website and write about it. What does it say to you? What’s the history behind it? How does it make you feel?
We have a new Write on Art learning resource with ideas to help you with writing your entry, as well as lots of other helpful resources on our new Learn pages.
Write on Art is free to enter. Entries are divided into two groups, based on year of study.
The winners will win a cash prize and have their essays featured on the Art UK and Paul Mellon Centre websites.
1st place – £500
2nd place – £200
Three runners up – £100 each
Our fantastic panel of judges this year are Emma Dabiri, Alastair Sooke, Lubaina Himid and Iwona Blazwick.
