The Children’s Society creative writing competition
Deadline: Fri 31 Aug 2018
The Children’s Society has launched an exciting new creative writing competition in partnership with Viking, an imprint of Penguin Random House. Submit a story for your chance to win expert advice and feedback from a top literary agent. As part of our Seriously Awkward campaign for vulnerable 16 and 17 year olds, we are inviting submissions of fictional stories of up to 2,000 words about this awkward age.

Who can enter: Unpublished writers in two categories 1) 16 to 25 year olds and 2) adults aged 26 and over.

A panel of writing experts will join a young person from the charity to choose the best stories.

Our top prize is exclusive advice and feedback from a top literary agent and writing goodies.

Free to enter.

Our Seriously Awkward campaign is about improving life for vulnerable 16 and 17 year olds. At 16 or 17, the adult world is both tempting and terrifying. What’s it like between childhood and the big move into adulthood? When is it awkward - and when is it seriously awkward?

Perhaps your character is a young person making exciting decisions about their future. Is she under pressure to make daunting life choices? Maybe he’s a teenager moving away from home, or a parent terrified by the prospect of the big move. They could be a social worker working to protect a child from harm or a teacher struggling to figure out what’s wrong.
