Director, The Royal Society of Literature
Deadline: Mon 17 Mar 2025
The Royal Society of Literature (RSL) is seeking to appoint a new Director who will play a key role in leading this iconic organisation into the future, while respecting the heritage of the RSL and its mission to 'nurture, celebrate and defend all that is best in British literature past and present'.
'Literature matters and is for everyone'
Founded in 1820 by George IV, the RSL is a charity which advances the cause of literature, supporting and honouring great writers. Core activities include a range of awards and prizes, an exciting annual programme of events, outreach work and the annual RSL Review. Fellowship of the RSL is a life-time honour. Fellows, elected by peers, are at the heart of the charity and make its work possible. This is an exciting time of transition and opportunity for the RSL as it opens a new chapter in its illustrious history.
The Director will be responsible for developing the strategy of the RSL, leading and managing the organisation and enabling the delivery of its mission. Reporting to the Chair and Council, they will, together with the President, act as an ambassador and the public face of the RSL, heightening its profile and representing its work to multiple and diverse audiences.
