Submissions are invited for The BBC National Short Story Award with Cambridge University (deadline: 17 March 2025) and BBC Young Writers’ Award with Cambridge University (deadline: 24 March 2025).
Celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2025, the
BBC National Short Story Award has enriched both the careers of writers and the wider literary landscape since its launch. The winning author receives £15,000, and four further shortlisted authors £600 each. The stories are broadcast on Radio 4 and available to listen to on BBC Sounds and additionally published in an anthology by Comma Press.
The writers shortlisted for the
BBC Young Writers’ Award have their stories narrated by an actor and recorded for BBC Sounds and published in an anthology.
The
BBC National Short Story Award is open to published writers aged 18 years or over who are UK residents, including residents of the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands.
