The Grainger Market Artist’s Residency is a joint initiative of the City Council’s Arts and Property Services Teams and is funded by Newcastle City Council. The residency is open to artists working in any artform and at any stage of their career.
Its primary aim is to engage market traders, local shoppers and visitors during the Great Exhibition in creative activity which will showcase and celebrate the people and the place and culminate in the creation and public celebration of one or more [site-specific] artwork[s].
It is envisaged that it will be characterised by significant engagement with users of the market, who will be collaborators and active participants in the development and making of the work and for whom there will be opportunities for the development of new skills.
A studio space will be made available on-site for the duration of the residency. Applications are invited from professional artists permanently resident in the North of England.
