To Manuscript and Beyond! New Poetry Course with Sarah Corbett
Mon 6 May 2024 to Mon 2 Dec 2024
‘To Manuscript and Beyond’ is a new poetry course aimed at helping you to develop and prepare for submission to editors/publishers a pamphlet length collection of poems (18 – 24 pages).

The course might also be useful if you have a full-length collection that you wish to work on, revise and submit to editors, or simply want to make a start on a new or full-length manuscript.

The course will be open to advanced level students only, poets with a serious intent who are familiar with contemporary poetry and have already published poems in recognised journals or are ready to submit. There will be a maximum of eight students in the group, and a minimum of six.

Through ten sessions we will read work in progress and discuss form and technique, themes and subject matter, alongside how to construct, edit and prepare a manuscript for submission; we will explore options for publishing a poetry pamphlet/collection, and read and discuss contemporary collections.

There will be regular writing exercises and prompts, and you will be required to write, develop or edit new work, read a selection of poetry collections, and prepare peer feedback in between sessions.

I will give written feedback on everyone’s work. I am hoping that one session will be given to an invited speaker.

Sarah Corbett is an internationally recognised poet, with five published collections, most recently A Perfect Mirror (Pavilion Poetry, 2018). Sarah has taught poetry in a wide variety of settings since 2000, and has mentored many students towards their first collections of poetry. She produced and directed the Sylvia Plath Literary Festival in Hebden Bridge and Heptonstall in 2022, and co-edited After Sylvia: Poems and Essays in Celebration of Sylvia Plath (Nine Arches Press, 2022). Sarah is a Senior Lecturer in Creative Writing at Lancaster University, and lives in Hebden Bridge.
