Transform your relationship with writing, through individual support, fresh mindsets, and the time you need to write, in lively workshop-style classes. In person (Oxford) and online options.
You want to write, so what’s stopping you? Most commonly: time, self-doubt, feeling we don’t deserve to, creative crisis points, assorted forms of writer’s block, unhelpful beliefs, and lack of support.
This course will help you start peeling away what’s stopping you and nurturing what helps, though gentle activities and discoveries. It’ll also give you time to write, in two 30–40 minute chunks every class, with individual support and feedback.
SUPPORT: individual tailored support with your writing
• 4 individual one-to-one check-ins across the course
• 2 rounds of constructive written feedback on your writing
• Help-slip system (unlimited): Any time you’re stuck or need advice, jot it down on a slip, and I’ll read them each week to give you the ongoing support you need.
• If you're working on a project, practical guidance to shape it.
• If you don't have a current project, you can choose to create fiction, poems, or a mix, and I’ll supply materials to get you writing and develop your skills.
MINDSET SHIFTS to clear obstacles and free your thinking
Gentle & fun guided activities that will transform your relationship with writing. These include:
• Exploring your beliefs around writing
• Feeding and protecting your creativity
• Using “Does Not Is” thinking
• Accessing flow more easily
• Moving beyond disappointments
• Connecting with your true confidence about specific projects / ideas
• Moving from “I’m brilliant! I’m hopeless!” to a healthy stable creative ego
You’ll also learn practical reusable tools to clear away negative beliefs and make regular small adjustments with wide-rippling effects.
TIME to write
Every class includes two 30–40 minute chunks of writing time.
• If you’re already writing outside class, use this as bonus time and to tackle the bits where you most need support and a focused contained space.
• If this is your only / main writing time, I’ll be the angel with a flaming sword defending your writing time.
In either case, we’ll also work on developing the practices and rituals you need to set, protect, and use quality independent writing time – so by the end of the course, you have a healthy ongoing writing-time practice in place. Through ease and joy, not brute-force discipline. This is the path of joy!
