Playwrights’ Studio, Scotland: Writers’ Hub with Paines Plough
Tue 20 Aug 2024 to Tue 20 Aug 2024
It’s Playwrights’ Studio, Scotland’s 20th year at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe! To mark it, we’re joining forces with Paines Plough, who mark 50 years of supporting playwrights this year, to create a day that celebrates writers, writing and connection.
The Day
1pm – 2.30pm
Join Morgan Lloyd Malcolm, Olivier Award winning playwright of Emilia and current Playwrights’ Studio mentor, for a free workshop on finding your process. The workshop will centre a discussion of what ‘process’ actually means when it comes to finding the right one for the project and for you.
3pm-5.30pm
We’re making a space in the iconic Roundabout for playwrights to have a conversation together about writing for theatre in the UK right now. The afternoon will be three discussion sessions, each hosted by a leading playwright or playwrights. The topics to be discussed on the day will be proposed by the playwrights attending. We’ll discuss as many questions, problems and ideas for the future as we can.
The event will be guided by what you want to discuss. Part of our aim for the session will be to collect thoughts from the discussion to share with the wider industry. There are several ways to bring a conversation to the event; please let us know what you would like to talk about and how comfortable you are proposing it by completing the questions below.
5.30pm-6.30pm
Join Paines Plough patron and Olivier Award winning writer James Graham (Dear England, This House) for a Q&A and discussion.
The event is free to attend but ticketed and will be in person only. 50% of tickets will be reserved for writers who live and work in Scotland year round. Voluntary donations towards the cost of providing Roundabout and facilitation for the day can be made in advance or on the day (pay what you decide)
