Description
Do you want to write a memoir, family history or biography but need help getting started? Or have you already started your non-fiction piece but need guidance with style and content?
Enter Midge Gillies, a freelance journalist and author of
How to Write Memoir & Biography (published by The Guardian) and
Writing Lives: Literary Biography (Cambridge University Press).
About the workshop
Midge will help you identify who you’re writing for and how this will affect your style and content. You’ll find out the main ways of telling a true story and how you can use humour, change pace and inject drama into your writing.
You’ll look at the factors you need to consider when telling a true story. From the pros and cons of using different sources – official documents, personal testimony and photos - to establishing a writing routine and maintaining momentum to continue to polish your work.
By the end of the day you’ll have a possible opening for your story, a rough plan for your book and a clear idea of your main sources - not bad for a day’s work.
If you have a strong story to tell and would like the tools to back it, then this is the writing workshop for you.
