Writing Lives is a one-week live online course led by Richard Skinner which will look at the many ways to write about your own life and other people's.
In specially designed daily sessions, Richard will use a combination of group discussion, individual exercises and curated reading lists to take you through some of the best examples of life writing from both fiction and non-fiction, and to get you thinking about how to apply those techniques to your own work.
From bestsellers by doctors and lawyers to Norwegian experiments in autofiction, the genre of life writing is bigger and broader than ever.
Drawing on a comprehensive reading list, and putting these ideas into practice in a series of writing exercises, we will spend the week discussing and deciding on the most suitable way for you to write into this newly re-energised and vibrant form of literature.
Richard Skinner is a novelist, poet and critic. His most recent book, The Mirror, was described as ‘beautifully written . . . immersive . . . captivating’ by the Guardian. As Director of the Fiction Programme at Faber Academy, he created the flagship ‘Writing a Novel’ six-month course in 2009 and since then has helped hundreds of writers find their voice.
