Winter’s Tale Short Story Competition 2024

Northern Broadsides and Arvon invite writers from the North of England to submit their unpublished winter tale (2,000-3,000 words). The winning story will receive a prize of £750 and will be recorded by a professional actor, distributed via the Northern Broadsides and Arvon websites and podcast platforms. Free to enter.

Creative prompt:
We welcome stories that you would love to listen to on a cold wintery day sat in front of a fire.

Must be appropriate for a general audience and suitable for the podcast format

Two runners up will receive a free Arvon at Home masterclass
Written versions of the winning story and the two runners up will be posted on the Northern Broadsides and Arvon websites from 18 December 2024 – 6 January 2025

Eligibility: Open to writers living in or originally from the North of England (Cheshire, Cumbria, County Durham, East Riding of Yorkshire, Greater Manchester, Lancashire, Merseyside, Northumberland, North Yorkshire, South Yorkshire, Tyne and Wear and West Yorkshire, plus the unitary authority areas of North Lincolnshire and North East Lincolnshire)
