New Writing North: Adapt your play for the screen

Our new six-month development programme offers two playwrights based in Newcastle, North Tyneside or Northumberland the chance to transfer their skills from playwriting to screenwriting.
ADAPT is a development programme for writers looking to adapt their work for the screen that will run from May – October 2025.
Two writers will be supported with 1-2-1 script development support from the NWN Screen Development Producer and professional script editors. They will also have the opportunity to take part in workshops on the fundamentals of screenwriting, story and adaptation, have their work read through with actors at an industry feedback session and also be supported towards next steps in progressing their screenwriting career.
Writers will receive a £1,500 bursary to support their time writing as well as receiving free training and script development support.
