Provocations: A Novel Poetry Competition - Deadline Extended
Deadline: Sat 9 Feb 2013
Competitors are invited to submit poems that relate to a favourite painting or sculpture
Poems should be unpublished, not longer than 40 lines and need to be
accompanied by a reproduction of the chosen painting or sculpture.
Two typed copies of each poem are required with the poet’s name and
contact details on a separate sheet. Details of results will be sent out on
receipt of a stamped addressed envelope.

Entries are to be submitted by January 31st 2012 and addressed to:

The judges are:

Chris Kinsey, currently Writer-in-Residence with Oriel Davies Gallery
Newtown. She has contributed to many magazines and anthologies
and has three solo poetry collections: Kung Fu Lullabies & Cure for a
Crooked Smile are published by Ragged Raven Press and Swarf has
just come out from Smokestack Books. She was shortlisted for the 2011
Keats-Shelley Prize and was BBC Wildlife Poet-of-the-Year in 2008.
She writes a regular Nature Diary for Cambria and occasional pieces for
Natur Cymru.

Paul Francis who writes in a variety of genres. He has won two national
poetry competitions, four other competitions, and was in the best three
submissions for the Guernsey Poetry on the Buses competition, 2010.
His poems have also featured in a range of magazines, and he has self-
published a variety of pamphlets, as well as performing at many local
venues. Various Forms, his first full-length collection, was launched at
the Wenlock Poetry festival in 2009.

Entry fees: £3 for the first poem, £2 for each subsequent poem. Cheques
to be made payable to The Castle Hotel Tourism CIC
The competition is being run as part of the first Bishop’s Castle Arts
Festival and will lead up to a banquet in the Castle Hotel, Bishop’s
Castle, on Saturday 18th February 2012 at which prizes will be presented,
exhibits displayed and live music enjoyed.
Prizes

1st prize : £100. 2nd prize. £75. 3rd prize : £50
The intention is for the prize-winning poems and the runners- up to be
published.
